Moto-expedition aroundArabia 2009 Or “50 and one night journey”
Latvians around the World - Moto adventure club ”apPasaule” (”around the World”) motorcyclists team continues journey around the world driving through the Arabic countries!
The start of the moto-expedition ‘aroundArabia 2009’ is due on Friday, 23rd October, 3pm from the Palace Square in RIGA with a team of three motorcyclists, ”apPasaule” members: Mārtiņš Sils, Aldis Apšenieks and Andis Neļķe.
Riders plan approximately 17 000 km and 7 weeks long drive to get to the heart of the Arabic world – Arabian Peninsula. The journey will be taking place late autumn 2009 when Latvian motorcyclist’s season is over, therefore the drivers heading off to these, even in winter warm regions, will extend the time allowed for motorcycling. On their way the drivers will be crossing the South of Russia and Azerbaijan, then will get to Iran which is planned to crossed diagonally on its length. From Iran, crossing the Persian Gulf, the Arabian Peninsula will be reached and almost all of its countries – United Arabian Emirates, Oman, Yemen, Saudi Arabia - visited.
The Arabian Peninsula and countries enclosing it are some of the places on the planet rarely visited by Latvian motorcyclists, which is main reason why our expedition is going to be held specifically in this area. As to every expedition, this has its own goals too. Namely, we want to figure out if the Arabian Peninsula is safe and reachable by motorcyclists from Latvia, what their local roads are like as well as expected difficulties on the way. Also, during the tour, there will be a chance to meet with their different perception of life, way of thinking and their vision of how things are. We expect there might be some complication whilst crossing the borders as we know eastern countries are quite strict at this. Although we will be doing all we can to stick to the initial route, visits to the historically and culturally significant places and objects yet probably there will require the need to change the route and choose some other roads which will differ from those previously planned.
During the drive, there will be no intention to emphasise popular touristic places and asphalt roads but locally used roads, villages with their national charm and nature objects that are mostly admired by the inhabitants rather than managers of touristic companies.
On the way back, drivers will be crossing Jordan, Syria, Turkey and will reach Europe in cold December.
It is intended to make a 10 series documentary during the expedition called ”fifty and one night drive” which will be aired on Latvian TV in the beginning of 2010. In addition it is intended to release a DVD containing material of most important and interesting episodes of the journey.
During the expedition, it is also planned to have live reports on Latvian TV, Radio SWH and Latvian Radio as well as on club’s home page www.appasaule.lv and probably other internet media.
Initiator and head of the expedition is Mārtiņš Sils who did Expedition ”roundWorld 2007” in 2007 and 2008, which was 6 months round the globe journey, as well by motorcycle. This journey inspired him to organise more expeditions in order to explore different world regions.

Most considerable accomplishments of
“Moto Adventure Club apPasaule”
Broadcasting of motorcycle expedition round the World (trip started at 2007, finished at 2008, lasted 6 months, arranged by president of club Mārtiņš Sils) in epic documentary movie “Round The World In 180 Days”. Movie has been produced with support of Latvian television chanel’s LTV7 broadcast cycle “Ceļā ar kameru / Travelling with the camera”. Film was broadcasted in TV channel LTV7 over 13 weeks every Sunday at 7:30 PM with two repetitions , currently DVD sets are on preparation stage.
Moto Adventure Race, arranged by associations present members since 2005 (since 2007 this race has promoted as Championship of Latvia). At 2009 title of The Champion Of Latvia will be obtained by struggle in total value of four stage competition.
The motosport team of “Moto Adventure Club apPasaule” is developed and participates in various motosport competitions, such as enduro, endurocross, moto adventure race, e.t.c
